Anesthesia

Some children may benefit from anesthesia as part of a carefully planned dental visit. Our team evaluates each child individually and discusses appropriate options with the parent or guardian.

Individualized Planning

Recommendations depend on your child’s age, health history, treatment needs, comfort level, and other clinical considerations. Anesthesia is not automatically appropriate for every child or every procedure.

Before the Appointment

Provide a complete medical history, current medications, allergies, and any previous reactions to anesthesia or sedation. Follow all eating, drinking, and medication instructions provided for your child’s appointment.

Questions and Follow-Up

Our team will explain the recommended approach, preparation instructions, what to expect, and post-visit care. Please contact us before the appointment if your child becomes ill or if you have questions about the instructions.

Questions to Discuss Before Treatment

Ask which comfort options are available for your child’s planned treatment, who will monitor your child, and what information the care team needs before the visit. The recommended approach may differ depending on the procedure and your child’s medical history. If another clinician or facility is involved, ask how the team will coordinate the appointment and follow-up.

Before leaving, make sure you understand any preparation instructions and who to call if your child becomes sick before the visit. Ask when your child can return to usual activities and what symptoms should prompt a call afterward. Our team can review these questions with you and explain the plan for your child.
